Procedure for Seasoning a Wok

It is very important to season a wok before using it; normally, seasoning is required if your new wok is not pre-seasoned or if it has worn out in your used wok. A properly seasoned wok will not require too much of oil as food does not stick on to the surface. This post gives a simple procedure for seasoning a wok.

How to Season a Wok?

Follow the steps given below for seasoning a wok:

• Wash the wok using soap and water; then dry it completely.
• Heat it over a medium heat till it becomes very hot; at the precisely required heat, a drop of water will dance over the surface before drying completely.
• Cover the inside of the wok with a layer of oil when it is still hot. Pour around 2 tablespoons of oil and brush it across the interiors. It is recommended to use peanut oil or palm oil.
• Let the oil to cook on the surface of the wok; this creates a surface that is more stick-resistant.
• Let the wok to cool down naturally before storing it away.

Seasoning a wok seals the cooking surface and prevents it from rusting.
